During 2019 Liverpool Cathedral showcased Luke Jerram's artwork called Gaia. The installation is of the earth and is titled Gaia as this means 'the personification of the earth' in Greek. The installation was shown in the cathedral from 25th May until 23rd June and during this time 200,000 members of the public visited the artwork in the cathedral.

The installation is a 23ft 3D replica of our planet earth and was apart of the Liverpool's River of Light Festival and was one of the key pieces in the Changing Tides creative programme and featured NASA imagery of the earth's surface. As part of the installation there were earth-inspired events under the installation, such as music, talks, yoga and storytelling.

Throughout the time the installation was shown, the piece floated above the heads of visitors of the cathedral each day. It was such a beautiful piece that created a stunning focal point of the cathedral.

This installation was the first installation that I can remember seeing in Liverpool's cathedral and since then I have visited the following installations that have been shown here. I think the cathedral makes a perfect venue to share installations, it is such a beautiful venue and the pieces work so well there.

Below shows some photographs I captured of the installation when I visited in 2019.

About Us

An overview of my work

I am a seascape artist from the U.K., creating acrylic paintings inspired by the ocean on canvas. I love the calmness of listening to the sea which reflects within my paintings. I capture the movements of the sea by taking photographs on beach walks and use the photos as reference. My work is on different scales, and I create hand painted products of my artwork on multiple items to sell on Etsy, Agift4theseasons.
