Liverpool Cathedral often holds installation events, the most recent event is Coalescence created by award-winning British designer, Paul Cocksedge. The event runs from 9th February until 12th March and is free to enter. Liverpool Cathedral creates a great venue for installations as over the years a variety of installations and artworks have taken place at this location by many designers and artists.
The installation is so beautiful as thousands of pieces of coal sparkle in the light from the ceiling. According to the designer, Coalescence aims to spark questions around energy consumption, the history of fossil fuels and the need to reach net zero. The artwork features over half a tonne of coal, representing the amount of power needed to light one 200W light bulb for a year.
The light shining on the installation is so beautiful as well as the shadows created. The images below were taken when I visited the event at the start of February, a few days after the event opened.
